Clumping bamboo is simply non-invasive bamboo. It stays exactly where you plant it.
For most people when they hear the word “BAMBOO” it immediately conjures up visions of a plant which grows out of control and takes over your yard and the neighbours. This new bamboo is escape proof. It can easily be planted into the ground without the worry of “runners” being sent out.
The root system of clumping bamboo restricts it growth. Running bamboo is “monopodial” which means a single rhizome (root) can grow under the ground and shoot many culms up through the earth. Clumping bamboo has “sympodial” rhizomes which can only produce one culm per rhizome, thus restricting their growth. One culm comes up next to the other creating a tight clump.
Bamboo is not just a tropical plant. In fact many are cold and frost tolerant. All of our catalogue species have been trialed in our temperate/sub tropical climate and have performed well.
Clumping bamboo has the ability to mature quickly. It will reach 75% of its maximum height within 2 years and will be fully mature within 3-6 years. It also has the benefit of being very easy to care for.
Semi-mature plants can create instant screening from prying neighbours. Smaller plants will need one to two seasons to achieve this.
